Q: Can you introduce yourself and your brand?
My name is Michaela Barochová, and I’m the founder of Numinous—a jewellery brand rooted in printmaking, emotion, and storytelling. I work with precious metals, gemstones, pearls, and even plastic waste to create timeless talismans and wearable art.
Q: What does “Numinous” mean?
It refers to a sense of awe or the divine—those powerful, spiritual moments in nature or life. The word is inspired by Rudolf Otto’s book The Idea of the Holy, which explores the feeling of being connected to something greater.
Q: What inspired your signature texture?
The Rorschach inkblot test. I love how abstract inkblots reveal different things to different people. I used photo-etching to transfer my own inkblot designs onto metal, creating what’s now the Numinous texture.
How do you approach sustainability?
I work with casting companies and local setters, and I finish each piece in my London studio. I aim to use fairtrade materials and design pieces to last generations, with mindful choices at every step—from wax sculpting to packaging.
Q: Tell us about a standout piece.
The Mighty Ring from my Fragmentation collection—it features fragments from older designs, resembling inkblots expanding in space. I custom-make it with gemstones chosen by the client. Another highlight is a necklace with cocoon pearls and textured fragments.
Q: What makes your jewellery timeless?
Intentional design, precious materials, and emotional connection. Each piece is made with care to be cherished, not replaced.
Q: Your creative motto?
I am, therefore I create. I create, therefore I am.
Creating is meditation for me—my calm, my purpose, my joy.
