Kapital was founded in 1985 by Toshikiyo Hirata, inspired by American denim he encountered while teaching Karate in the U.S. He opened his first factory in Kojima, Okayama in 1984. In 2002, his son Kiro Hirata joined the brand after studying art in the U.S. and working at 45RPM. Together, they transformed Kapital into a renowned label known for its unique blend of traditional craftsmanship and avant-garde design. Name Origin: The “K” in Kapital is a nod to Kojima, Japan’s “Denim Capital.”
